CinemaCon in Las Vegas was off and running on day one. Sony Pictures Entertainment kicked off opening night. The studio previewed their upcoming movie lineup for this year and some future projects. Danny Boyle started with a sneak peek of 28 Years Later, the apocalyptic continuation of the series, which he produced and directed, starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes. The film will release on June 20, 2025. The film was followed by an introduction to its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta.
Spider-Verse

The much-anticipated finale to the Spider-Verse series was introduced. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will pick up from where the previous movie left off and be the finale to Miles Morales’s story. New animation and technological advances will add to the visual storytelling in this feature film. It is slated to debut June 4, 2027.
Spider-Man Brand New Day

My spidey senses keep tingling! Surprise! Spider-Man Brand New Day has officially been announced. Destin Daniel Cretton took to the stage to introduce the new film. Sadly, there were no clips or trailers, but instead, CinemaCon attendees were treated to a short video from Tom Holland. The movie will continue where Peter Parker’s story left off in the previous Spider-Man film. According to Holland, “This is a brand new day, a fresh start” for the character. Holland also joked that that was all we were going to get, no spoilers. I guess he’s learned from some of his past experiences. I think many are already caught in this superhero’s web and will be anticipating its release in theaters. Filming will start this summer, with a release date set for July 31, 2026.
Caught Stealing

Caught Stealing, based on the book by Charlie Huston and directed by Darren Aronofsky, was up next. This crime-filled action movie stars Austin Butler as a down-and-out bartender in 1990s New York City, who is thrown into the criminal world. This movie should take us on a wild ride, with a nicely rounded out cast. This is something a bit different from Aronofsky’s usual films and will be interesting to see this August.
Resident Evil

Zach Cregger was up next to introduce a new Resident Evil movie. This survival horror drama will continue the legacy that the popular video game started. This film sounds unique in the sense that it will follow one protagonist’s journey through their adventures.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey

Who wants to go on a road trip? A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will take us on a road trip that leads us to places we never could have expected. This romantic fantasy, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, dares to show us that open doors can take us on a unique journey through life. Drops into theaters on September 19.
GOAT

GOAT, an uplifting animated sports film produced by Stephen Curry, among others, should be fun for the whole family. It challenges the notion that bigger is always better in sports. The film tells a story that builds on one of Stephen Curry’s feelings that “No matter how small you are, you can dream big.”
Demon Slayer

Anime fans, we have some news for you! An amine trilogy arc is in the works at Sony Pictures. Demon Slayer- Infinity Castle will be the final chapter in the Demon Slayer series. The trilogy will be released this fall, starting on September 12.
I Know What You Did Last Summer

Do you like scary movies? Sony Pictures has a few for you. Another installment in the Insidious series will debut in 2026. But wait, what did you do last summer? I have no idea, but I know what you might be doing this summer. July 18 will see the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise continue with some ‘new blood’. The premise and villain seem to follow the same pattern as the original, including characters played by Freddie Prince Jr and Jennifer Love Hewitt. A touch of terror never hurts anyone during the summer, or does it?
Starship Troopers, Jumanji 3, and Zelda
The slate of future films continued with announcements of a new Starship Troopers movie in the works that will not be a remake, Jumanji 3, out December 2026, a live-action Zelda that tells a story with the beloved video game character, aiming for a release in March 2027
Karate Kid: Legends

Karate Kid: Legends seems to be a big push for the studio. The movie was introduced by a group of dancers and martial artists that moved across the Colosseum stage before snippets of the film and its trailer were introduced by the stars of the movie, Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang. The story follows the struggles of Li Fong to fit in and his subsequent entrance into a karate competition. With the help of Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and the training of Daniel LaRusso, he is able to merge two martial arts forms to complete more than just the karate competition.
The Beatles

And finally, the surprise bookend of the evening, Sony announced its new The Beatles project. Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes will use his talents to create four biopic films that are each told from the perspective of that particular Beatles member. Actors Paul Mescal (McCartney), Joseph Quinn (Harrison), Barry Keoghan (Starr), and Harris Dickinson (Lennon) will star as each of the band members. All four films will work together to tell the story of one of the most famous music groups of all time, and all four will be released in April 2028. Releasing this way will be a unique experience for moviegoers and a push to get them out of their houses and into the theaters. Mendes mentioned that it will be the “first bingeable theatrical experience.”
