Aaron Chen: Funny Garden – March 31

If you have not yet discovered Australian comedian Aaron Chen, this Netflix special is the perfect introduction. In Funny Garden, the Aussie comic riffs on the absurdities of life in the United States, from New York City sidewalk riddles to unexpected news sources, all delivered with his signature deadpan wit. Born and raised in Sydney, Aaron has quickly climbed the ranks of both the Australian and international comedy scene, and he currently lives in New York City. Among his many accolades, he won the 2024 Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s People’s Choice Award for the most tickets sold during the festival, adding to previous wins including Best Newcomer in 2017 and Director’s Choice in 2019. Audiences may also recognize him as a star of the Netflix hit series FISK and as loyal assistant to Guy Montgommery on the ABC smash Guy Montgommery’s Spelling Bee. Funny Garden is the kind of special that rewards patient, curious viewers who appreciate a comedian with a truly singular voice and a refreshingly off-kilter perspective on modern life.
Along Came Polly (2004) – April 1

Few romantic comedies from the early 2000s have aged quite as charmingly as Along Came Polly, and Netflix is giving subscribers a great excuse to revisit it. Ben Stiller plays Reuben Feffer, a risk-averse insurance analyst whose world collapses when his wife abandons him on their honeymoon, only for him to reconnect with a free-spirited childhood friend named Polly Prince, played by Jennifer Aniston, who operates on pure instinct and zero planning. The film is a delightful odd-couple comedy, mining genuine laughs from the tension between Reuben’s need for certainty and Polly’s allergy to it. Philip Seymour Hoffman also delivers a scene-stealing supporting performance as Reuben’s hilariously overconfident best friend Sandy Lyle, who is convinced his acting career is about to take off. If you are in the mood for something light, nostalgic, and genuinely funny, Along Came Polly is an easy, breezy watch that holds up better than most of its contemporaries.

American Gangster (2007) – April 1

Ridley Scott’s crime epic is one of the most compelling and meticulously crafted films of the 2000s, and its arrival on Netflix is a genuine treat for fans of the genre. Denzel Washington delivers a masterclass in controlled menace as Frank Lucas, a real-life Harlem heroin kingpin who built a drug empire in the 1970s by cutting out the middlemen and importing product directly from Southeast Asia. Russell Crowe matches him step for step as Richie Roberts, a dedicated and deeply principled detective who becomes obsessed with dismantling Lucas’s operation despite pushback from a corrupt police department. The film is remarkable for the way it presents both men with equal clarity and empathy, refusing to flatten either of them into a simple hero or villain. Scott’s direction gives the film the scope and gravitas of a classic Hollywood epic, and the period detail, from the fashion to the music to the grimy textures of 1970s New York, is immaculate throughout.
Atonement (2007) – April 1

Atonement is one of those rare films that stays with you long after the credits roll, haunting and devastating in equal measure. Adapted from Ian McEwan’s celebrated novel, the film follows Briony Tallis, a precocious thirteen-year-old aspiring writer who makes a catastrophic accusation against Robbie Turner, the housekeeper’s son and the man her older sister Cecilia loves, with consequences that ripple across decades and through the horrors of World War II. Keira Knightley is luminous and heartbreaking as Cecilia, while James McAvoy gives one of his finest performances as Robbie, a man whose life is irrevocably derailed by a child’s dangerous misreading of the world around her. Joe Wright directs with breathtaking visual poetry, and the famous five-and-a-half-minute single take tracking shot across the beaches of Dunkirk remains one of the most stunning sequences in modern cinema. Atonement is a film about guilt, memory, and the stories we tell ourselves, and it earns every tear it draws from its audience.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) – April 1

Whether you are a die-hard Queen fan or a casual listener who simply cannot resist belting out the title track, Bohemian Rhapsody is a wildly entertaining, foot-stomping ride through one of rock music’s most extraordinary careers. Rami Malek won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his transformative portrayal of Freddie Mercury, capturing both the flamboyant showmanship and the private vulnerability of the legendary frontman with remarkable depth and commitment. The film traces Queen’s rise from a scrappy university band to one of the biggest acts on the planet, culminating in a bravura recreation of their legendary 1985 Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium. While critics at the time debated some of the film’s more conventional biopic choices, audiences worldwide embraced it with enormous enthusiasm, making it one of the highest-grossing music biopics ever made. If you have never seen it, or simply want to relive the magic of Mercury and his bandmates, Bohemian Rhapsody is a pure crowd-pleaser that delivers on every level.

Casino (1995) – April 1

Martin Scorsese’s Casino is a sprawling, ferociously entertaining descent into the glittering underworld of 1970s Las Vegas, and it belongs in the same conversation as Goodfellas as one of the director’s very best films. Robert De Niro plays Sam “Ace” Rothstein, a supremely gifted gambling expert dispatched by the Chicago mob to run the Tangiers Casino, a role he excels at until ambition, greed, and personal chaos begin to erode everything he has built. Joe Pesci is electrifyingly dangerous as Nicky Santoro, Ace’s volatile enforcer whose appetite for violence eventually becomes impossible to contain, and Sharon Stone delivers a career-defining performance as Ginger McKenna, a woman whose beauty and self-destruction are equally mesmerizing. At nearly three hours long, the film is an epic in the truest sense, packed with voiceover narration, operatic violence, and one unforgettable set piece after another. If you have never made time for Casino, its arrival on Netflix is the perfect occasion to finally sit down with one of Hollywood’s great crime films.
Mission: Impossible 1-5 – April 1

Few action franchises have sustained their quality and spectacle across multiple films the way Mission: Impossible has, and Netflix now has the first five entries in one place for subscribers to marathon at their leisure. Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is one of cinema’s great action heroes, a man defined not by superhuman abilities but by sheer, almost insane determination, and his willingness to perform genuinely dangerous stunts in service of each film’s set pieces remains breathtaking even after multiple viewings. The series spans the sleek espionage thrills of Brian De Palma’s original 1996 film, the stylized excess of John Woo’s sequel, the grittier and more emotionally grounded third installment from J.J. Abrams, and Brad Bird’s spectacular Ghost Protocol, in which Cruise famously scaled the Burj Khalifa. The run concludes with Christopher McQuarrie’s Rogue Nation, which introduced the formidable and beloved Ilsa Faust, played by Rebecca Ferguson, and set the stage for the even more ambitious films that followed. This is an ideal franchise for a weekend binge, building momentum and spectacle with each successive entry.
XO, Kitty (Season 3) Netflix Original – April 2

The beloved To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before spinoff is back for its third and final season, and the stakes have never been higher for Kitty Song Covey. Anna Cathcart returns as Kitty for her senior year at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS), determined to make meaningful memories with her friends, grow closer to her relatives in Korea, and make big decisions about her future. The season also promises that she will finally define her relationship with Min Ho, for real this time, though surprise revelations are bound to throw her plans off course and force her to embrace the unexpected. In a thrilling development for longtime fans of the franchise, Lana Condor is finally making an appearance this season as Kitty’s older sister Lara Jean, reprising her beloved role from the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before film trilogy. Created by Jenny Han and written and showrun by Valentina Garza, the new season consists of eight episodes. For fans who have followed Kitty’s journey from the beginning, Season 3 promises the emotional and romantic payoff the series has been building toward all along.

The Bad Guys: The Series (Season 2) Netflix Original – April 2

Mr. Wolf and his crew are back, and they are bigger, bolder, and more delightfully chaotic than ever in the second season of this DreamWorks animated prequel series. In the new season, the Bad Guys are on a heisting hot streak and have moved into a snazzy new evil lair, but their rise to infamy is complicated when they must confront old enemies, attempt to stop a wedding, and face the return of Wolf’s former mentor. While Season 1 focused on the gang’s rise to infamy, Season 2 finds them dealing with the perks and pitfalls of being established names in the criminal world. The entire Season 1 voice ensemble returns, including Michael Godere as Mr. Wolf, Chris Diamantopoulos as Mr. Snake, Ezekiel Ajeigbe as Mr. Shark, Raul Ceballos as Mr. Piranha, Mallory Low as Ms. Tarantula, and Patton Oswalt as Mr. Wigglesworth. The series serves as a fun and accessible entry point for families who fell in love with the feature films, and its sharp humor and kinetic animation make it a joy for viewers of all ages. With The Bad Guys 2 also recently arriving on the platform, April is shaping up to be the best month ever to be a Bad Guys fan on Netflix.
Merrily We Roll Along (2025) – April 4th

One of the most acclaimed theatrical events of the decade has finally made its way to Netflix, and it is absolutely not to be missed. Merrily We Roll Along is the live stage recording of the 2023 to 2024 Broadway revival of the legendary Stephen Sondheim musical, directed by Maria Friedman and captured live at New York’s Hudson Theatre in June 2024. The story follows the turbulent, decades-long relationship of three lifelong friends, composer Franklin Shepard, lyricist and playwright Charley Kringas, and writer Mary Flynn, told in brilliant reverse chronological order, beginning at the bitter, cynical end of their friendship and rolling backwards to the hopeful, starry-eyed beginning of their journey in 1957. Jonathan Groff and Daniel Radcliffe both took home Tony Awards for their performances, with Groff winning Best Actor in a Musical and Radcliffe winning Best Featured Actor, while the production itself won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical. The film currently holds a 95% score from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and those scores have held steady since its theatrical release in December 2025. If you can only watch one thing on Netflix this week, make it Merrily We Roll Along: it is the kind of show that reminds you why live theater, and the art of storytelling, matter so deeply.
