Katee Sackhoff has long been a fan favorite in the sci-fi world, from her iconic turn as Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica to voicing Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. But when it came time to bring the character to live action in The Mandalorian, Sackhoff revealed that the experience left her shaken in ways she never expected.
Katee Sackhoff Opens Up About Losing Confidence After The Mandalorian

On her YouTube series The Sackhoff Show, the actress opened up in a candid conversation with fellow actor Tahmoh Penikett about how portraying Bo-Katan took a toll on her self-confidence. “I lost all of my confidence after The Mandalorian,” Sackhoff admitted. “All of it. My style of acting has always just been, ‘Your first instinct is the right instinct. Do that. Play the reality of the situation.’ But Bo-Katan felt so far removed from who I am.”
Sackhoff explained that most of her past roles had always contained shades of her own personality, making it easy to find a sense of authenticity. Bo-Katan, however, proved to be more difficult. “Her life, what she wants, I didn’t understand her. As much as I understood her, I never felt her in my stomach. I never identified with her. I didn’t know how to find her… and it broke me.”

The actress went on to describe how the role left her struggling not just with performance but with her career at large. “It just broke me, where I started doubting everything about myself. I’m not a strong auditioner on tape, and I was having to put myself on tape. I wasn’t booking anything. And for three years, I basically didn’t work. And it just destroyed my confidence.”
While Sackhoff’s honesty offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the emotional weight that comes with embodying a legacy character in the Star Wars universe, it also highlights how even seasoned performers can be shaken by roles that feel unfamiliar.

As for what’s next, The Mandalorian will continue with the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu. Whether Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan returns remains uncertain, though speculation has pointed to a potential appearance in Ahsoka season 2. For now, fans will have to wait and see if the warrior queen of Mandalore rises again on screen, or if Sackhoff’s journey with the character has reached its end.
