Eight years after the inaugural event and (fittingly) held on the 10-year anniversary of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks’ main roster call-ups, WWE is once again putting its female stars center stage with Evolution 2.
The build may have been (frustratingly) brief, but between technical masterpieces, shocking cash-ins, and the longest non-stipulation women’s match in WWE history, Evolution 2 was an undeniable triumph that highlighted the abundance of talent on the women’s roster.
Jacy Jayne vs Jordynne Grace with Blake Monroe
Though she arrived in NXT with a sugary-sweet, Sabrina Carpenter-inspired character, “The Glamour” Blake Monroe showed her true colors during the NXT Women’s Championship match, helping Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne retain her title.
Monroe’s heel turn not only brings her short and sweet friendship with “Muscle Muffin” Jordynne Grace to an end (with the promise of a brutal grudge match in the near future), but it also suggests a potential alliance between Miss Monroe and Fatal Influence.
Whether she’s a one-time ally to Fatal Influence or a full-fledged member, Monroe’s (unexpectedly swift) heel turn spells “danger” for any and all NXT women’s champions, and brings one of the best promos in wrestling to Tuesday nights.
Blake Monroe wasn’t the only one who shocked fans at Evolution: after losing her no-holds-barred match to Jade Cargill earlier in the night, Miss Money in the Bank Naomi crashed the main event between IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley, successfully cashing in her contract and becoming the new champion.
Having spent weeks teasing a cash-in on SmackDown’s WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton (before Evolution, Naomi herself was also on SmackDown), the gutsy cash-in was a shocking end to an electric card, and marks Naomi’s first WWE world title since 2018.
Rhea Ripley vs IYO SKY with Naomi
From the unexpected target to the pitch-perfect timing (at the end of a record-setting, barn-burner of a match between Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY) to the bloody bandage on her nose and the crazed look in her eyes as she held the title high for the first time, Naomi’s cash-in will go down as one of the best in WWE history.
But while the cash-in may have made an incredible moment and crowned a long overdue champion, it also brought a bittersweet end to the (admittedly sparse) world title reign of IYO SKY without handing her a clean singles loss, maintaining her undefeated streak against Ripley.
Whether as allies or enemies, SKY and Ripley have spent the better part of 2025 in the ring together, and their on-again-off-again title feud will continue into SummeSlam, where both women will get their rematch against Naomi in a triple threat.
So what’s next for IYO and Rhea? It isn’t a stretch to say plenty of fans expected to see Ripley reclaim the Women’s World Championship at Evolution, finally putting a conclusive end to their long-running story. But with the mercurial nature of triple threats (and the lack of disqualifications), chances are good that Naomi will find a way to hang on to her title through SummerSlam, once again leaving two of WWE’s biggest stars empty-handed.
