After months of watching, waiting, and wondering, WWE fans finally know who attacked Jade Cargill. While everyone from Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson to Bayley to Charlotte Flair were tossed out as potential attackers for the former women’s tag team champion, sometimes the most obvious answer is the best one — it was Naomi all along. Though a Naomi heel turn has been brewing for a few months, and all signs pointed to the GLOW being the culprit, Bianca and Naomi’s heartbreaking promo was the perfect finale to the Cargill attack mystery.
Clocking in at just north of eight minutes, the Bianca/Naomi confrontation isn’t particularly flashy or violent, but it doesn’t need to be. Though kayfabe friendships come and go, there’s a tangible joy and believability to Belair and Naomi’s bond that’s made their friendship a highlight of the women’s division for years. Even when they weren’t a tag team, Bianca and Naomi have always been on the same wavelength, so to watch their bond crumble in real-time is more than dramatic enough.
Both clad in black as opposed to their usual brightly colored matching gears, you can hear the emotion in Bianca and Naomi’s voices as they circle an inevitable truth — at one point, Belair is so overwhelmed with emotion she calls Naomi “Trin.” But when the truth finally comes out, Naomi’s ferocity and defensiveness are understandable and justified — she says it herself; she doesn’t care about Jade because Jade doesn’t care about Bianca.
Despite being one of the most tenured women in the division, Naomi is treated like a third wheel — not just by the company but by Belair and Cargill. While they hold tag gold and jaunt down to NXT to tag in trios matches with Kelani Jordan, Naomi is left to her own devices to grind it out in the Smackdown singles division, clawing at a chance for a title. Bianca partnering with Jade over Namoi — a newcomer and a stranger over a long-time friend — was betrayal enough for Naomi to justify shoving Jade.
By the time Naomi gives up pleading and calls Bianca an “ungrateful b—-,” their once-unbreakable bond is all but shattered, with Jade arriving right on queue to deliver another long-overdue beatdown. But while Bianca may have stood by and given Jade the go-ahead to attack Naomi this time, it seems like the Jade/Bianca relationship might also be fractured by Naomi’s betrayal. With Jade back in action, Bianca’s Wrestlemania title shot right around the corner, and Naomi finally showing her true colors, the implosion of the “Big Three” is proving to be one of WWE’s best active storylines.
