Scarlett Johansson has always been a rare breed in Hollywood—an A-lister who remains completely absent from social media. While most of her peers flood Instagram and X with behind-the-scenes content, promo clips, and the occasional red carpet selfie, Johansson has steadfastly avoided the digital fray. And according to her latest interview with InStyle, that’s not about to change—even if it means passing up a studio-backed push for Jurassic World: Rebirth.

In the magazine’s new cover story, Johansson revealed that Universal Pictures recently asked if she’d consider joining Instagram to help promote the highly anticipated summer blockbuster. Her answer? A firm no.
“I mean, even today, I got an email from Universal, and they’re like, ‘Hey, would you consider joining Instagram in tandem with the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth?’” she shared. “I get a lot of pressure to join social media. [It does make me think]… is there a way where I could do this and stay true to who I am? It didn’t feel like I could.”
For Johansson, authenticity is everything. “The work that I put out there is all based in truth. That’s the key ingredient,” she added. “So if I was a person who really enjoyed social media, then I could totally get on the bandwagon. But I’m not. And I think the film will do fine.”
It’s hard to argue with that logic, especially when you consider Johansson’s track record with major franchises. Jurassic World: Rebirth marks another tentpole in her career following her wildly successful tenure as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After her character’s emotional sendoff in Avengers: Endgame, Johansson headlined her own prequel film, Black Widow, in 2021. But for those hoping she’ll suit up again in the MCU, she’s made it clear: Natasha Romanoff’s story is finished.
With or without a social media push, Jurassic World: Rebirth is poised to dominate the summer box office when it roars into theaters on July 2. And if Johansson’s past blockbusters are any indication, she won’t need Instagram to make it a hit.
