Scarlett Johansson has a schedule that would make even the most caffeinated Marvel superhero exhausted. Between starring in Mike Flanagan’s highly anticipated reboot of The Exorcist, joining the cast of The Batman Part II, and following up her box office success with Jurassic World Rebirth by appearing in the next Jurassic sequel, the former Avenger is booked solid. But somewhere in that packed calendar, she’s still making room for one of Disney’s most thrilling projects: a Tower of Terror adaptation.
According to Disinsider, the film based on the beloved Disney Parks attraction remains in active development, with Johansson still attached to star and produce. While fans shouldn’t expect updates anytime soon given her overflowing commitments, the Black Widow actress gave EW a promising update back in June 2025, confirming the project is progressing despite some creative hurdles.

“It’s taking shape!” Johansson revealed, though she acknowledged that adapting the attraction’s narrative has proven trickier than anticipated. “Harder than you think, because the ride itself, there’s some lore to it, but it’s… I don’t want to say thin, but it is, kind of!” she explained. The challenge lies in expanding the attraction’s premise, which exists within the universe of Rod Serling’s iconic anthology series The Twilight Zone. The ride follows five unfortunate souls who board an elevator inside the Hollywood Tower Hotel, only to be transported to the Twilight Zone after lightning strikes during a violent storm.
Despite the narrative challenges, Johansson remains optimistic. “But, we’ll crack the case of it,” she promised, suggesting the creative team is committed to honoring the attraction’s mysterious atmosphere while building out a feature-length story worthy of theatrical release.

Tower of Terror has remained one of Disney World’s most popular attractions since its debut, towering at 199 feet tall and inspiring versions at Disney parks worldwide, including Walt Disney Studios in France, Tokyo DisneySea in Japan, and Disney California Adventure in California. The Disneyland version underwent a major transformation in 2017, however, when it was reimagined as a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction to fit the new Avengers Campus section, bidding farewell to its Hollywood Tower Hotel theming.
For Johansson fans eagerly awaiting her next projects, Tower of Terror represents an intriguing departure from her recent action-heavy roles. The question now is when the busy actress will find time to actually step into that haunted elevator. Until then, we’ll be waiting in the lobby, ready to check in whenever she’s ready.
