Hold onto your electrified fences, dino fans, because it looks like Universal is already stampeding toward the next chapter of its prehistoric cash machine. The follow-up to last year’s Jurassic World Rebirth is reportedly eyeing the title Jurassic World: Liberation, and honestly? It sounds like the dinosaurs aren’t the only ones breaking loose.
The title reveal comes courtesy of some savvy domain name sleuthing: several Liberation-branded URLs were quietly scooped up recently, which in Hollywood is basically the equivalent of leaving your diary open on the kitchen counter. Not exactly subtle, Universal.
Jurassic World Liberation – Gareth Edwards Is Back to Wrangle Dinosaurs and Scarlett Johansson’s Schedule

Director Gareth Edwards, who guided Rebirth to a jaw-dropping $870 million at the worldwide box office, is set to return for the follow-up, and why wouldn’t he? That kind of box office performance makes a man very employable. The fifth Jurassic World film and eighth entry in the overall franchise is currently targeting a June 9, 2028 release date, which gives the studio plenty of runway to get things right this time around.
It looks like Universal Pictures has registered the trademark “Jurassic World Liberation”.
And speaking of getting things right: Scarlett Johansson will once again slip back into the boots of covert ops expert Zoe Bennett, the role she made unmistakably, effortlessly cool in Rebirth. But don’t expect cameras to roll anytime soon. Johansson’s 2026 dance card is absolutely packed, with back-to-back shoots lined up for The Exorcist: Martyrs and The Batman: Part II. Production on Liberation likely won’t kick off until early 2027, meaning we have some time to admire her range before she’s back outrunning apex predators.

Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali are both expected to return as well, which is very good news for anyone who enjoys watching extraordinarily attractive and talented people sprint from enormous carnivores.
As for the script, David Koepp penned Rebirth, and while the film was more of a crowd-pleaser than a critics’ darling, it clearly did its job. Whether Koepp returns or fresh hands take over the screenplay remains to be seen. A narrative upgrade would certainly be welcome, though, because Liberation has the potential to be something truly special if the writing matches the spectacle. The franchise shows absolutely no signs of going extinct.
