Sydney Sweeney is leveling up—again. The Euphoria breakout and Anyone But You star has just boarded another hot-ticket project: a live-action adaptation of the smash-hit video game Split Fiction, to be directed by Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Sweeney will star in and executive produce the cinematic take on Hazelight Studios and EA’s wildly successful co-op video game. Released just this March, Split Fiction sold over 2 million copies in its first week—an eye-popping debut that all but guaranteed Hollywood would come calling.
Sydney Sweeney adds another high-profile adaptation to her growing slate of genre projects
Split Fiction follows Mio and Zoe, two writers who find themselves trapped inside the fictional worlds they’ve created—a concept ripe for the big screen. While Sweeney’s specific role hasn’t been revealed, her involvement both in front of and behind the camera signals that this isn’t just another paycheck gig. She’s all in. And she’s not alone: the screenplay will come from Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with production duties handled by Story Kitchen and Chu’s own Electric Somewhere banner.
This marks yet another video game-to-film swing for Sweeney, who’s already producing and developing OutRun, a feature adaptation of the Sega racing game, alongside Michael Bay. Add in her upcoming projects—including The Housemaid (due Christmas Day 2025), a Christy Martin boxing biopic, and a buzzy Reddit-based thriller titled I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl—and it’s clear: Sydney Sweeney is building a mini-empire.
Oh, and don’t forget her still-in-the-works Barbarella reboot for Sony Pictures. Whether she’s in a corset, combat boots, or a car chase, Sweeney isn’t just acting—she’s shaping the future of genre cinema. And with Split Fiction now in the mix, that future looks like one hell of a ride.
