Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are set to bring the thrilling world of The Housemaid to life in an exciting new film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel. Announced by Lionsgate on Tuesday, this star-studded project will be helmed by none other than Paul Feig, best known for Bridesmaids and A Simple Favor.
The two leading ladies took to Instagram to share their excitement and tease the project. Seyfried posted a video, flashing her signature smile while holding a copy of McFadden’s book. “We’re bringing The Housemaid by Freida McFadden to the big screen,” she announced, adding, “Stay tuned.” Meanwhile, Sweeney kept things mysterious, sharing a clip of herself with the book and captioning it, “Tell me about yourself, Millie.” The nod to her character’s name had fans buzzing with anticipation.
As for the plot, here’s what we know: Sweeney steps into the role of Millie, a young woman desperate for a fresh start. Landing a job as a housemaid for Nina (played by Seyfried) and Andrew, an affluent couple with a picture-perfect lifestyle, Millie soon finds herself entangled in the couple’s web of secrets, which prove to be darker—and far more dangerous—than her own troubled past.
Director Paul Feig also joined the social media celebration, sharing his enthusiasm with fans. “It’s happening,” he captioned a video.
