Madelaine Petsch is ready to trade in Riverdale High for Gotham City. The Riverdale and The Strangers star just made her case to play Poison Ivy in Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman Part II. While fans have seen plenty of The Joker, Two-Face, and The Penguin across decades of Batman movies, the redheaded actress is advocating for a villain who has yet to make her mark in Reeves’ dark and grounded world.
Madelaine Petsch Makes a Fiery Pitch to Join Matt Reeves’ The Batman Sequel as Poison Ivy

In a new interview, Madelaine Petsch revealed her long-standing love for the iconic eco-terrorist and her not-so-subtle campaign to catch Reeves’ attention. “We’re working on it,” she teased. “I dressed up as Poison Ivy many Halloweens ago, just to get their attention. It’s like, ‘Hey, Matt Reeves, are we paying attention?’ They haven’t made the movie yet, so who knows?” Given her striking red hair, commanding presence, and genre experience, fans immediately began envisioning her as the seductive and deadly Pamela Isley.
The fan casting makes sense. Petsch has the charisma and confidence to bring a fresh energy to Poison Ivy, a character who has often been overshadowed by Batman’s more grounded foes. Still, there’s debate over whether Ivy’s plant-based powers and mystical allure would fit Reeves’ gritty Batverse, which leans heavily into realism. While Poison Ivy might not thrive in the world of Robert Pattinson’s Batman, she could bloom beautifully in the upcoming The Brave and the Bold—part of James Gunn’s developing DC Universe reboot.

Director Matt Reeves recently hinted that The Batman Part II will feature a villain “never really been done in a movie before,” leading many to speculate about Hush or other lesser-seen rogues. “I always wanted the movies to be focused on Bruce Wayne,” Reeves said. “Picking the right villain that digs into what that does and goes into his past and his life—that was what drove that discussion.”
Whether or not Petsch lands the part, her enthusiasm for the role shows she’s more than ready to branch out from her Riverdale roots. Between her horror chops in The Strangers and her flair for complex, intense characters, Madelaine Petsch’s Poison Ivy could be the seductive, scene-stealing villain DC fans have been craving.
