Move over, final girls. Madelaine Petsch is here to rewrite the rules entirely. The undeniably magnetic actress, best known for her long run as the fiery Cheryl Blossom on Riverdale, has officially signed on to join the cast of American Horror Story Season 13, and frankly, we could not be more thrilled. Her role remains tightly under wraps, which, in true Ryan Murphy fashion, only makes the casting that much more delicious to obsess over.
What we do know is this: Petsch is arriving at the anthology series on a full-blown horror hot streak. She just wrapped her star-making turn in The Strangers trilogy, a brutal, tension-soaked franchise revival that proved she could carry a horror property with genuine grit, vulnerability, and a screen presence that makes it impossible to look away. Whether she was running for her life or staring down masked figures in the dark, Petsch commanded every frame. Hollywood noticed. Ryan Murphy clearly noticed.
Fresh Off The Strangers Trilogy, Madelaine Petsch Is Cementing Her Status as Horror’s Reigning Queen

And really, is anyone surprised? Petsch has always had a certain gothic electricity to her. Even on Riverdale, draped in red and ruling Thornhill like a Southern Gothic queen, she was practically auditioning for a prestige horror gig without even knowing it. Now, with The Strangers trilogy under her belt and an AHS credit incoming, she is not just dabbling in the genre. She is planting a flag.
American Horror Story has long been a launchpad and a love letter to performers willing to go completely unhinged in service of a story. From Lady Gaga’s bone-chilling turn in Hotel to Evan Peters cycling through villain after iconic villain, the series rewards fearlessness. Petsch has fearlessness in abundance.

Season 13 details remain scarce, which is both maddening and completely on brand for Murphy’s notoriously secretive production machine. But the mere confirmation of Petsch’s involvement sends the anticipation needle rocketing into the red.
One thing is certain: whatever dark, twisted corner of the AHS universe she is about to inhabit, Madelaine Petsch is going to make it completely, unforgettably her own. Horror has a new leading lady, and she is just getting started.
