More than 15 years after its release, the cult classic Jennifer’s Body may finally be getting the sequel fans have been waiting for. Director Karyn Kusama confirmed in a new interview that a script for Jennifer’s Body 2 is currently in development. “I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film,” Kusama teased, hinting that the follow-up will capture the same biting humor and horror that made the original such an enduring favorite.

Originally released in 2009, Jennifer’s Body starred Megan Fox as Jennifer Check, a high school cheerleader who becomes possessed by a demonic entity, and Amanda Seyfried as her best friend Needy Lesnicki, who finds herself in the middle of Jennifer’s blood-soaked rampage. Though the film underperformed at the box office at the time of its release, it has since been widely reappraised as a feminist horror staple. Over the years, it’s found a passionate audience who’ve celebrated its sharp commentary, queer subtext, and unforgettable one-liners.
The cast has also expressed enthusiasm about returning. Both Fox and Seyfried have previously shared their willingness to reprise their roles, and fans are hoping to see screenwriter Diablo Cody return as well. Seyfried once called the film “perfect,” while also acknowledging how its initial marketing failed to do it justice. “If the critics criticize anything, it would be the marketing. The marketing sucked, it just did. And we all agree,” Seyfried told reporters.
At the time, the marketing campaign leaned heavily on Fox’s sex appeal in an attempt to attract young male audiences. But as the years passed, the film’s true voice found its way to the people it was meant for. Jennifer’s Body has since become a touchstone for horror fans who value female-driven narratives and genre-bending storytelling.
The most exciting takeaway from Kusama’s comments is the implication that the original creative power trio of Kusama, Cody, and the incomparable stars, Seyfried and Fox, are planning a hellish reunion.
