Is Jennifer’s Body 2 finally happening? Over 15 years after the cult horror-comedy first hit theaters, it looks like a sequel to the Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried-led film may actually be moving forward. And yes, we’re screaming.
Jennifer’s Body wasn’t exactly a box office hit when it debuted in 2009, but time has been kind to the film, cementing its status as a feminist horror favorite. Megan Fox has long said the movie was ahead of its time, and now, with renewed interest and fan demand, she and screenwriter Diablo Cody are seriously discussing the possibility of bringing it back to life—literally.

Cody, the Oscar-winning writer behind Juno, has expressed excitement about reviving the film for a sequel. “I think it was always my dream, but I certainly didn’t think it would be realistic,” she told Nylon in a recent interview. Despite its rocky initial reception, Cody now sees a path forward, comparing it to how Buffy the Vampire Slayer found success as a TV series after the film underperformed. “People rarely want to make sequels to films that don’t perform,” Cody admitted. “Now I feel like it could be possible.”
And if Amanda Seyfried’s recent comments (via Bloody Disgusting) are anything to go by, a Jennifer’s Body sequel is more than just wishful thinking. The actress—who played Needy Lesnicki, the best friend-turned-final girl—dropped a tantalizing update on TikTok. When a fan asked if there would be another Jennifer’s Body, Seyfried responded, “I think we’re making another one,” before quickly adding, “I didn’t confirm it! I said, ‘I think.’” She then winked and followed up with, “We’re working on it!” Sorry, Amanda, but we’re gonna go ahead and take that as confirmation.

Fox, for her part, has been open about her desire to revisit Jennifer’s Body in some form. Back in 2021, she told The Washington Post that a sequel wouldn’t be hard to pull off. “I mean, they should make it a TV series. That would be cool,” she suggested. Meanwhile, Cody has remained steadfast in her passion for continuing the story. “I am not done with Jennifer’s Body,” she said in a 2024 interview. “I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe in it as much as I do, and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”
The revival of Jennifer’s Body as a cult classic has been especially rewarding for both Cody and Fox, who endured intense backlash following the film’s initial release. “There was a time when it was painful for me to talk about Jennifer’s Body,” Cody admitted. “That movie was a commercial failure, and I was savaged personally… It wasn’t just having a professional failure. It was hard, and I actually went through therapy because of my experience.” Fox, too, faced scrutiny that made her question how the film would affect her reputation as an actress.

While there’s no official green light just yet, the enthusiasm from the film’s original creative team suggests that Jennifer’s Body 2 could actually happen. And if it does, we’ll be first in line with our Evil Dead-emblazoned lighters, ready to watch Jennifer Check rise again.
