Jennifer Check is coming back to the big screen. After years of teases, wishful thinking, and one very persistent fandom, Jennifer’s Body 2 appears to be genuinely happening. A new Production Weekly listing has the sequel set to shoot in October, with Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried both expected to return to the roles that turned a 2009 misfire into one of the most beloved cult horror films of the century.
From Box Office Flop to Horror Cult Classic: How Jennifer’s Body Earned Its Second Life

The pieces have been quietly assembling for a while. Seyfried hinted at a follow-up before director Karyn Kusama confirmed in October 2025 that Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning writer of Juno, was working on a script. What has been missing until now is anything resembling a start date. The project still hasn’t been officially greenlit by 20th Century, so treat this as a very promising rumble rather than a done deal, but production listings tend not to appear out of thin air.
For the uninitiated (are there any left?), the original followed Needy Lesnicky (Seyfried), whose impossibly gorgeous best friend Jennifer (Fox) gets offered up as a virgin sacrifice by the smarmy frontman of an indie band rolling through town, played with perfect slime by Adam Brody. The ritual goes sideways, Jennifer comes back as a flesh-eating succubus with a taste for high school boys, and Needy is left to clean up the mess.

The film barely registered at the box office in 2009, buried under a marketing campaign that sold Fox as a pinup rather than the razor-sharp satire she was actually starring in. Then something rare happened: the internet grew up, rewatched it, and realized Cody and Kusama had made a genuinely furious movie about female friendship, male exploitation, and who gets believed. Nearly two decades on, it’s regarded as a modern horror classic.
The sequel also marks a notable return for Kusama. She hasn’t directed a feature in over seven years, filling the time with television work including an executive producer role on Yellowjackets, and she has Stan, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Drew Starkey, in the works as well. Her filmography (Girlfight, The Invitation, Destroyer) suggests she knows exactly how to make a comeback land with teeth.

Fox, meanwhile, has spent the intervening years being publicly re-evaluated by the same culture that once flattened her into a punchline. A Jennifer’s Body sequel with her back in the varsity jacket is not just fan service, it’s a victory lap.
