The Beautiful Madness has arrived at SmackDown, and not a moment too soon. Less than a year after officially debuting on NXT (at No Mercy in September 2024), Stardom sensation turned former NXT Women’s Champion Giulia has been drafted to the blue brand. Though the call-up may have happened at whiplash-inducing speed, there’s no denying that Giulia’s resume makes her more than main-roster ready, before she even stepped foot in an NXT ring.
Giulia: From Stardom to SmackDown: A queen of strong style steps into WWE’s spotlight

With her ferocious, hard-hitting style and unflinching brutality, Giulia is a fearsome name in joshi wrestling – but there’s been an undeniable disconnect between the star we know her to be in Japan and her recent weekly appearances on NXT. Though she quickly dethroned Roxanne Perez to become NXT Women’s Champion, Giulia’s arrival in WWE has been somewhat hampered by the near-simultaneous debuts of Stephanie Vaquer and Zaria.
Though Zaria has slotted neatly into a storyline with Sol Ruca, the creative for Giulia and Stephanie has been decidedly less clear, with both women being belted up (the NXT Women’s and North American Championships, respectively) upon arrival to WWE despite a relative lack of story. Reigning briefly NXT Women’s Champion before dropping the belt to Stephanie Vaquer in a title-for-title match at Madison Square Garden, Giulia’s stint as NXT Champ was a short but sweet run that offered a taste of what this future main-eventer’s career could look like in WWE.

To some, Giulia dropping her title to Stephanie Vaquer and quickly being called up to SmackDown is out of left field. Still, with just nine women making up the SmackDown roster and a recent wave of releases further thinning out the roster, there’s never been a better time to shake up the blue brand. As surreal as it is seeing Giulia in the same room as Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, bringing in a technician like Giulia is exactly what SmackDown needs to inject the women’s roster with a much-needed shot of adrenaline.
