Among the many recent proclamations that NXT has the “best women’s division in all of wrestling”, a handful of names continue to crop up as examples of what makes the roster special — Roxanne Perez, Stephanie Vaquer, Giulia, and now Zaria (formerly Delta) are the subjects of many a viral post about the “future of wrestling”. But the beauty of NXT is that the must-watch stars aren’t just at the top of the card — thanks in large part to Shawn Michaels’ efforts to give talent time to develop their characters in backstage segments and online exclusives, Tatum Paxley has become one of NXT’s hidden gems.

At the beginning of 2024, the future looked bright for the eyeliner-loving, doll-toting, borderline-obsessive superstar — she started the year in a fan-favorite storyline with Lyra Valkyria (a la Mickie James and Trish Stratus). Still, just as things began to really heat up in the form of a Paxley heel turn, Valkyria was called to the main roster, and the bubbling feud with Tatum was all but forgotten.
But despite her “Sweet Dove” having taken flight to Raw, Tatum Paxley has continued to deliver unique, entertaining promos with a delightful character that bleeds into her in-ring work. Whether it’s her twisted “Psycho Trap” finisher (a malapropism of an homage to Saw) finisher or her propensity for strange, contortion-based taunts mid-match, Paxley’s unhinged yet lovable personality has transcended her mostly pin-eating booking throughout 2024.

Even if she’s not winning matches, Tatum Paxley is winning hearts: finding unlikely friends in the likes of Lola Vice, Jakara Jackson, and Sol Ruca, as well as creeping over to TNA to challenge Jordynne Grace for the Knockouts World Championship. This week, though, Pax finally has another shot at bringing gold to the dollhouse: a North American Championship match against Fallon Henley.
