Saturday Night Live turned up the heat this March 9, taking a playful jab at President Joe Biden’s latest State of the Union, but the real showstopper was the spoof on the GOP’s comeback. Picture this: after Mikey Day’s Biden wraps up his speech, complete with digs at House Speaker Mike Johnson’s disapproving head shakes — likening them to someone who’s just had an unexpected run-in with an episode of Euphoria — the spotlight shifts to Alabama’s own Senator Katie Britt.
Scarlett Johansson SNL Cold Open Katie Britt
Enter Scarlett Johansson, embodying Britt with a twist, ready to dive into her role as the ‘Scary Mom’ of the hour. She launches into a monologue she’s dubbed ‘This Country is Hell,’ setting the tone for a satirical take on Britt’s much-talked-about response.

Johansson’s Britt is more than just a senator; she’s a mom, a wife, and a self-proclaimed “craziest bitch in the Target parking lot,” laying out her concerns for the nation’s future from a peculiarly empty kitchen set. Why the kitchen, you ask? It’s all about connecting with the female electorate, because, as the sketch humorously points out, “women love the kitchen.”
But Johansson’s portrayal doesn’t stop at kitchen politics. She boldly claims she’s not just putting on a show, despite diving headfirst into a jarringly intense tale about sex trafficking, sprinkled with details that are as fictional as they are alarming.

Mid-speech, Britt, as played by Johansson, tries to hawk a “gorgeous bejeweled cross necklace,” and even throws in some unexpectedly sultry vibes, just for kicks. The sketch doesn’t shy away from a Get Out reference either, with Johansson stirring a teacup, leading to a cutaway of Kenan Thompson, visibly shaken, with a tear rolling down his cheek.
In true SNL fashion, the segment was a rollercoaster of satire and wit, with Johansson at the helm, delivering a ‘Scary Mom’ performance that will be remembered.
