Gotham City may soon welcome one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in early talks to join The Batman Part II, marking the first major casting news as pre-production on the highly anticipated sequel picks up steam. The report, originating from Nexus Point News, notes that details surrounding Johansson’s potential role are being tightly guarded. Even so, sources hint that she could play a new love interest for Bruce Wayne, a development that would shake up the emotional core of Matt Reeves’ grounded Gotham saga.
Scarlett Johansson Could Bring a New Dynamic to Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight

Reeves returns to direct the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2022 film, again teaming with Mattson Tomlin to co-write the script. The duo is crafting another noir-inspired chapter in this darker, more psychological take on the Dark Knight. Reeves will also produce through his 6th and Idaho production company alongside longtime partner Lynn Harris, with Dylan Clark returning as producer after steering the first film. Now under the DC Studios banner, the sequel will also have oversight from co-chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran, adding additional creative firepower to the project.
The sequel’s cast is already stacked with returning talent. Robert Pattinson is back as Bruce Wayne and Batman, continuing his brooding, detective-driven interpretation. Jeffrey Wright will return as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis is confirmed to return as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell will reprise Oswald Oz Cobb, better known as the Penguin. Notably, Zoe Kravitz is not expected to return as Selina Kyle, leaving room for a new romantic or narrative focal point. With production slated to begin in April 2026 at Warner Bros. Leavesden Studios and run through the fall, official announcements may arrive soon.
Who could Scarlett Johansson play in The Batman Part II?

As for which character Johansson might portray, speculation is already in overdrive. Fans have floated several compelling possibilities, including the iconic Andrea Beaumont, also known as the Phantasm from the animated classic Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Pamela Isley, the eco-terror-turned-antihero Poison Ivy, remains another top-tier contender. Others suggest she could step into the shoes of Gotham journalist Vicki Vale or longtime Bruce Wayne love interest Julie Madison. Each option brings a distinct energy, and Johansson’s versatility makes any of them feel like a realistic fit.
Jeff Sneider adds she’s playing a love interest that later turns out to be a villain.
Johansson is no stranger to the world of superheroes. Her performance as Natasha Romanoff and Black Widow across nine Marvel Cinematic Universe films propelled her into global blockbuster stardom. Outside of her MCU tenure, she has delivered critically acclaimed work in Her, Under the Skin, Lucy, Marriage Story, and Jojo Rabbit. Most recently, she appeared in Jurassic World Rebirth and will next headline Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Exorcist film for Universal.
If negotiations close, Johansson joining The Batman Part II would be one of the most high-profile additions to a DC film in years. With production set to begin soon and fan speculation at an all-time high, Gotham may be poised for one of its biggest shake-ups yet.
