When Silo Season 2 ended with Bernard’s world in ruins, fans were left wondering how — or whether — he could recover. In a new interview with Nerdspin, Tim Robbins Bernard opens up about what’s ahead, and it’s clear the character’s toughest battle isn’t physical.
“Bernard discovers something at the end of Season 2 that shatters his worldview,” the actor explains. “He realizes that everything he believed may have been a lie.” For a man who spent two seasons wielding power with quiet confidence, that revelation is devastating: the actions he thought were justified — even righteous — turn out to have been manipulated by the very algorithm he trusted, and the consequences were far more destructive than he understood.

Playing that unraveling, the actor says, required more than an emotional shift. “Not only completely changed physically because of the injuries he sustains at the end of Season 2, but also the injuries he sustains psychically and spiritually.” Season 3 finds Bernard fighting for survival while also seeking a kind of justice — not just for the people he’s wronged, but for his own fractured sense of self.

It’s a role built on secrecy, something the actor says they’re drawn to. “I always love characters that have secrets, that cannot say their truth, but hold a deep truth that even the audience can’t know.” That tension between what Bernard knows and what he can admit — even to himself — is central to the show’s larger themes of memory and power. As the actor puts it, staying in control means carefully managing what you remember and what you conveniently forget. The moment someone in power starts questioning that comfortable amnesia, they become dangerous — to the system, and to themselves.
Silo Season 3 promises to test exactly how far Bernard is willing to go.
