Ahsoka Episode Seven: Navigating Through a Maze of Dreams and Madness as Galactic Tensions Rise.

Ahsoka Episode Seven Recap : 7 / 10 : Only two episodes remain of the highly anticipated series and up to this point, it hasn’t disappointed. With Thrawn located and his sights set on galaxy takeover, episode seven ‘Dreams and Madness’ has lots to do with Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra. Though not much happens beyond that, it makes you question if there’s too much to cover for the finale. Let’s dive in.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead

Big Threats and Old Friends

Ahsoka Episode Seven Recap
Lucasfilm

We begin with Hera in front of a jury, paying for her disobedience from prior episodes. They aren’t happy with her for several reasons, and her justifications don’t seem to be working either. Senator Xiono especially has it in for her. Hera protests she ignored orders to protect people, not the council. As they finalize a vote, we’re interrupted by a familiar voice…

That of C-3PO, who comes bearing a transcript from Leia Organa which proves she sanctioned Hera’s mission on Seatos. Senator Xiono isn’t pleased, but given that Leia heads the Defense Council, Hera is dismissed. Mon Mothma brings Hera close and asks her about Thrawn. Hera says, “We have to hope for the best and prepare for the worst”.

Then, we’re finally back with Ahsoka, who was absent for most last episode. She trains while old recordings of Anakin play in the background. Huyang enters, and Ahsoka reminisces; “he was a good master,” she says. The two jump out of hyperspace and the star whales are met with something odd. Ahsoka, disregarding Huyang’s warnings, as usual, flies out and discovers they’re in an imperial minefield. The bombs do very little to the whales and provide cover for the time being, but soon they jump back into hyperspace, leaving Ahsoka and Huyang to navigate solo. To up the stakes, enemy ships chase behind. Ahsoka leads them down toward a debris field, taking a few out in the process.

Back on Thrawn’s ship, he idles with Elsbeth and learns that Anakin is Ahsoka’s master. He calls off the enemy ships and lets Ahsoka resume her journey to find Sabine and Ezra. This seems unwise at first, even for Elsbeth, but Thrawn is always steps ahead. The biggest problem this episode has is that it doesn’t really go anywhere. Thrawn falls victim to this the most; he has a few scenes where he just continues to give orders, nothing further. His most important scene is towards the end.

As Sabine, Ezra, and their turtle friends travel, they are halted by Baylan and Shin in the distance. Baylan says an unexpected goodbye to Shin, “your ambition drives you in one direction, my path lies in another”, he says. We keep seeing glimpses of Shin’s reaction to her master; it seems she’s becoming displeased or feels betrayed. Baylan is by far the best character the series has to offer. His story is mysterious, his dialogue is captivating, and it makes you invested in the character. Let’s hope the finale gives us an idea of what he seeks.

Baylan & Shin

Shin leads the army and surrounds Sabine and Ezra. The turtles huddle in their shelters. Nearby, Huyang drops off Ahsoka and she faces Baylan, who’s surprised to see her. The two duel once more, but this time, Ahsoka gets the upper hand. – “You can’t defeat me, he says, “Perhaps, but I don’t have to”, Ahsoka says as Huyang drops flares on them. Baylan navigates out of the smoke, unharmed, to see Ahsoka trotting away. He looks on, not angry, nor defeated, and continues his way.

Sabine Wren - Ahsoka
Lucasfilm

Ahsoka hugs Ezra, and he expresses his hope to go home, but Ahsoka and Sabine know it won’t be easy. Back on Thrawn’s ship, he believes this first meeting with Ahsoka was a success; they bought time and are now close to departure, giving the Rebels very little time to escape.

The Verdict – Ahsoka Episode Seven Recap

Ahsoka episode seven ‘Dreams and Madness’ achieves the series’ initial goal of reuniting the rebels. But it makes similar mistakes as its first few episodes, leaving many questions unanswered and little direction as to where the story might go. Will enough be covered to end the season? Or will the story bleed into its second season? We’ll know the answer soon enough.
