According to a scoop from Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider newsletter, Margot Robbie is officially set to star in and produce Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, a reimagining of the 1958 sci-fi cult classic with none other than Tim Burton directing. The film, in development at Warner Bros. Pictures, had been flying under the radar for months after first being reported back in February 2024. But now, thanks to Robbie’s involvement and Burton’s unique touch, the long-gestating remake is finally starting to grow legs or, at least, one very giant one.

Originally starring Allison Hayes, the 1958 version told the story of a wealthy heiress whose run-in with a UFO causes her to balloon to skyscraper size and seek revenge on her cheating husband. For Burton, known for his gothic whimsy and twisted fairy tales, this modern retelling could be the perfect playground for his surreal sensibilities. The project was initially scripted by Gone Girl and Sharp Objects mastermind Gillian Flynn, whose first draft reportedly laid the foundation. While Flynn won’t return for future rewrites due to other commitments, Warner Bros. is said to be actively seeking a new writer to continue developing the screenplay.
Margot Robbie Reunites with Warner Bros. and Tim Burton for Sci-Fi Cult Classic Reboot

Margot Robbie’s addition is a major win for the studio, especially after her game-changing success with Barbie, which also came from her LuckyChap production company. With Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, LuckyChap adds another high-profile female-led genre piece to its growing slate of smart, subversive projects. And for Robbie, the role offers a deliciously over-the-top opportunity to blend camp, comedy, and cosmic chaos, all under Burton’s eccentric direction.
While Burton recently teased that his next film might be animated, this reboot seems very much alive and in motion. Whether it becomes his next project or not, one thing is clear: Robbie, as a towering alien-enhanced heroine, has all the makings of a movie moment.
So yes, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman is still very much happening, and now, it’s about to get a whole lot taller.
