Up, Up, and Away! James Gunn Unveils New ‘Superman’ Title and a Sneak Peek

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan ignite the dawn of a new era in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s visionary DC Universe.

James Gunn Superman

James Gunn is taking us on a high-flying adventure with a fresh peek at the iconic Superman emblem that’s going to grace the big screen in the eagerly awaited Superman flick, formerly buzzed about as Superman: Legacy. Gunn, the mastermind behind the lens, gave us this tantalizing teaser via his Threads and Instagram, setting the stage for what’s shaping up to be a supercharged costume reveal when the film soars into theaters on July 11, 2025. And guess what? In a serendipitous nod to the Man of Steel himself, filming has officially taken flight on Superman’s very own birthday!

James Gunn’s New Superman Title

Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.

When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy.  By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.  Making our way to you July 2025.

This latest cinematic venture will zoom in on Clark Kent, portrayed by David Corenswet, juggling the daily grind as a journalist with his world-saving duties as Superman. The star-studded lineup doesn’t end there, with Rachel Brosnahan stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult embodying the cunning Lex Luthor. It’s been over a decade since Man of Steel had us glued to our seats, and now Gunn, alongside DC Studios Co-CEO Peter Safran, is set to inject new life into this Warner Bros. juggernaut. Superman isn’t just a movie; it’s the dawn of an exhilarating era in the DC Universe, promising a treasure trove of tales yet to be told.

The cast is nothing short of stellar, with Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Anthony Carrigan joining the fray. With Clark Kent already rubbing elbows with other superheroes, the stage is set for a riveting narrative. While the plot remains shrouded in mystery, one thing’s for sure: with Superman’s notorious array of foes, Metropolis better watch out for any villain daring enough to stir up trouble, including the formidable Engineer, brought to life by María Gabriela de Faría. Gear up, folks; this is one super saga you won’t want to miss.
