Holly Wolf is a powerhouse in the cosplay community, earning worldwide recognition for her breathtakingly detailed costumes and dedication to the craft. With millions of fans following her work, she has solidified her place as one of the most influential cosplayers in the industry. Beyond cosplay, she’s also a partnered Twitch streamer and YouTuber engaging audiences with her passion for gaming, pop culture, and creative content.

She’s also a nerd, having spent a huge part of her cosplay career bringing various Zelda interpretations to life. She’s also a huge fan of Cammy (so are we), by far one of the most popular characters in the Street Fighter franchise.

Marvel Rivals was released to rave reviews this past December, taking fans of multiplayer games and Marvel comics fans alike by storm, presenting unique designs and fresh takes on the pantheon of Marvel Universe characters. This meant tons of creative opportunities for the cosplay community. Bringing these versions of the characters to life with all the small intricacies, nuts and bolts is their specialty and their time to shine.

Marvel Rivals Has Been a Blessing to the Cosplay Community

On Marvel Rivals’ popularity, Wolf was quite enthusiastic. “Marvel Rivals has been a blessing honestly,” she says, “it’s almost like it’s brought new life into so many of the amazing characters we already know throughout the Marvel Universe, and opened up so many new possibilities for cosplayers and creators!” She continued “It’s so refreshing seeing the new takes on their outfits, and with multiple skins… it gives cosplayers more opportunity to cosplay the version they think best fits them!”

The game’s overwhelmingly positive reception is no surprise. The 6v6 hero shooter offers 33 characters at launch each with their own unique playstyles, a battle pass with no FOMO, and multiple maps at no extra cost.

The revamped, fresh takes on familiar characters are also a perfect challenge for Cosplayers to bring to life. Cosplay is a sign of expression, artistry, and creativity. A real chance for a fan to portray their favorite characters, do their own takes on them or in this case bring an established iteration of a popular character to life.

“I personally love to work on cosplays that suit my facial structure and body type as it really reinforces the accuracy of the cosplay; let’s just say when I saw both Sue Storm and Dagger I was very compelled to cosplay them!” said Holly regarding her iteration of Marvel Rivals’ Sue Storm, one of the most popular characters on the roster and played by Vanessa Kirby in the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps film.

Holly Wolf on the Importance of Representation and Her Connection to Sue Storm

Representation in media is a powerful thing. No matter the medium of content, seeing a character, empowering, inspiring, and cool is a surreal experience. One Holly Wolf knows all too well especially when it comes to the Fantastic Four’s very own Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman.

“Looking back on so many of my cosplays, blue and white are within the color schemes I’ve always gravitated towards,” she said of the striking blue and white design Reed and Sue sport in Marvel Rivals, both her favorite colors. “Funny enough right now I have basically her exact hair and I was more than thrilled as soon as I saw her Model in game, it’s such an exciting feeling to see a character and be like oh my gosh that looks exactly like me! It brings excitement when preparing to cosplay, knowing that you identify them both on a physical and hopefully an emotional level!”

Marvel Rivals Bold Character Designs and Strength Inspire Cosplayers like Holly Wolf

Holly’s cosplays always harbor class, grace, and elegance. The overall attention to detail that goes into making a character outfit as authentic to the real thing shows her amazing work ethic and dedication.

Her rendition of Sue Storm from Rivals is absolutely fantastic but the process is anything but easy. It takes hard work to look like a superhero. A character’s look and physique plays just as much of a part and oftentimes serves as an inspiration for fitness goals for cosplayers like Wolf.

It’s imperative for cosplayers like her to do their best to capture the essence of the character they’ve chosen. On that notion, Wolf says “Most of the characters definitely have a very intense physique as of course they 100% would if they were in those situations constantly fighting battles and working to fight against evil.”

Marvel Rivals’ character designers certainly understand the larger-than-life personalities of the characters on its roster and the importance of visual aesthetic conveying said personalities, much like Holly’s cosplays do too. On the subject of making them strong and not shying away from portraying superhero physiques borne out of intense crime-fighting, Wolf continues “I love that the developers didn’t shy away from making the characters ultra-buff and ultra-thick as one would say! It’s something that inspires me to work on my Fitness personally so I can emulate the character structure better in real life.”

But Wolf knows the stresses that come with living up to larger-than-life characters gracing the big screen, comic book shops, and games alike.

“Of course,” she says, “a lot of these characters are naturally unrealistic and I think we should all keep that in mind when cosplaying things you’re never going to look 100% like that person but again they’re fictional characters and I’m real so I just do my best!!!”

The addition of the X-Men in Marvel Rivals is as inevitable as it is exciting, and among those hyped beyond compare is Holly Wolf. She looks forward to being able to bring more X-Men cosplays to life. She’s already given fans a tease of what that could look like with her incomparable Mystique cosplay, which took no shortage of time to both apply and remove.

It’s easy to overlook the intensity of hard work put into her cosplays especially when the result is as authentic to the characters Wolf portrays, but it’s certainly hard work. In the meantime, X-Men aside, Holly is quite excited to share her cosplay of a certain Assassin and Avenger.

“Black Widow, she’s next on my list!” says the cosplayer and gamer giving her fans a tease of what they can expect next from her.
