Final Thoughts on ‘Wednesday’ Season 2: A Spooky Ride with Twists and Turns

Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ season 2 delivers chilling twists, shocking reveals, that leaves fans begging for more.

This article contains spoilers for Wednesday S2.

And just like that, Tim Burton’s Wednesday season 2 has wrapped up its spellbinding run. With Part II, which dropped on September 3, the creators gift us four more episodes brimming with unexpected cameos and jaw-dropping twists. Through it all, Jenna Ortega dazzles as the titular Wednesday, once again racing against the clock to save the Outcasts and the haunted town of Jericho.

Part I ends with a cliffhanger—Tyler (Hunter Doohan) throws a wounded Wednesday out the window of Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. But we all know the Addams daughter is forged from pain, gore, and dark attitude; it’s not easy to keep her down. Part II opens with the revelation that she is, in fact, still alive and well. Maybe not entirely well, though, as Wednesday soon finds herself face-to-face with her new guardian angel, the ever-imposing Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie), who offers sharp advice and even sharper wit.

Once Wednesday claws her way back to the land of the living (and is probably less than thrilled about it), her mission is crystal clear: take down Tyler, who continues to stalk her and Enid with deadly intent. Part II unleashes a cascade of jaw-dropping twists, revealing that the enigmatic patient Francoise (Frances O’Connor) is Tyler’s Hyde mother, and that the notorious Pugsley’s zombie Slurp is actually named Isaac (Owen Painter), Francoise’s brother, and Tyler’s uncle.

It doesn’t take a long time to realize that Isaac is less a scientist and more a mad hatter, and the family’s tangled history with the Addamses is the very reason for his past demise. But let’s be honest, only a few can outmatch the Addams clan, especially when they’re united and armed with their forces. Wednesday learns this in a pulse-pounding finale, where we also discover that The Thing is actually… Isaac’s hand. Could there be a bigger twist in The Addams Family universe?

Doohan, O’Connor, and Painter all deliver standout performances within the supporting cast ensemble, capturing every twist and turn of their delightfully dysfunctional family. This chaos stands in sharp contrast to the show’s central family, who, for all their gloom and spookiness, radiate mutual respect—especially Morticia and Gomez. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán are nothing short of phenomenal, breathing new life into roles that embody a marriage built on consent, respect, and undying love.

Zeta-Jones also shines in her on-screen duet with Ortega, as their characters once again wrestle with the complexities of their mother-daughter bond. Ordonez’s Pugsley, too, steps into the spotlight at Nevermore, enjoying his time away from home. With both Wednesday and Pugsley’s escapades unfolding, the show paints an even richer, spookier tapestry, deepening the characters’ development.

Speaking of the character development, a lot has happened with Enid this season. Finding out she’s alpha, which comes with its own rules and extreme dangers, Myers’ character evolves even more, trying to find herself, separate from Wednesday. Despite that, Myers’ Enid is always there for her roommate and vice versa, which proves itself to be true in the scene in which Wednesday is buried alive. With the help of Agnes (Evie Templeton), who can be quite sweet when she’s not creepy, both illustrate the power of having someone’s back at all times. Another example of a solid supporting cast ensemble is Joy Sunday in the role of Bianca. Her past is more revealed in season 2 as we’re taught about Principal Dort’s (Steve Buscemi) involvement in Morning Song.

Part II continually delivers, whether it’s a memorable soundtrack, great special effects, or skillful directing. One of the best scenes is, undeniably, the one in which Wednesday swaps bodies with Enid as a punishment sent by one of the ghostly apparitions, Rosaline Rotwood (the role played by Lady Gaga, a small, a bit too fleeting, albeit interesting for the plot). That’s where the acting skills of Myers and Ortega really dazzle, as both actors perfectly channel their swapped characters. It’s both hilarious and quite creepy, seeing Wednesday’s dimples as she smiles broadly, clad in colorful, glittering outfits. Also, can we talk about the fact that she is actually allergic to color?!

Wednesday Season 2 Recap

Season 2 ends with another mystery solved and people saved by the Addamses again, but leaves us with some lingering questions: What’s going to happen to Enid, who was forced to transform into a Werewolf to save Wednesday? Will Tyler and Miss Capri (Billie Piper) return? These are just a few of the questions that hang over the season 2 finale, which feels more like a setup for more. Here’s hoping we get the answers in already announced season 3. After all, there’s no such thing as too much of Wednesday’s deadpan charm.

Wednesday S2 is available for streaming on Netflix.
