If you follow the now-extinct DCEU or yet-to-be-erected DCU, you’re familiar with Aquaman 2 and the abysmal wait it has been for good news. Now, director James Wan has released the first trailer–and, depending on the person you ask–the wait continues.

Aquaman 2 Initial Reactions

Can we just talk about the irony connected to Mera (Amber Heard)? Following the harangue of hate associated with her messy divorce, spousal abuse allegations (and actions), found guilty of defamation, fan petitions to have her cut, and now, a Netflix documentary about the entire thing, she didn’t say a word.

The irony is her screen time was reported to have cut down drastically like she was put in a bottle upon a shelf. And now look at her. Of course, Wan tried to get Heard’s back about the journey, but whatevs.

Another nice thing is plenty of Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) in this trailer. Giving him the Dark Trident is so great! Yahya should kick all kinds of aqua @$$ in this film. Speaking of welcomed sightings, we knew Arthur’s half-brother, Orm (Patrick Wilson) was coming back but he’s a major part of this sequel–as are his abs. Dang, dude. Save some for the rest of us.

Immediate Detractions Feel Like Number 2

The wait has been enduring for a couple of years. With only three months to go for a theatrical debut, expectations were sky-high. However, fans have put a wet blanket over the thing.

The moist reception was a little understood considering WBD, the dunderheaded studio, has been on a serious cold streak at the box office with Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and the film that deserved much better from fans, Blue Beetle. Although the DCU is boarding up shop and James Gunn manning the nail gun, Aquaman 2 was supposed to be a Dennis Rodman rebound.
