This morning, Marvel Studios dropped a major bombshell with the release of the first trailer and poster for Thunderbolts*, revealing Johansson as an executive producer on the much-anticipated project (via Variety). After hanging up her Black Widow suit, Johansson is diving back into the Marvel universe from a new angle, and it’s clear she’s eager to explore fresh horizons. Her exit from the iconic role in Black Widow seems to have paved the way for new adventures, and Thunderbolts* marks a thrilling new chapter for her involvement.

The Thunderbolts* lineup is as star-studded as Marvel fans could hope for. Florence Pugh, reprising her role as Yelena Belova from Black Widow, will lead the ensemble cast. The film promises a mix of familiar faces and new blood: Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes, delivering a nod to his Winter Soldier days with a dramatic grenade gun scene in the trailer. Joining the fray are David Harbour and Wyatt Russell, back as The Red Guardian and U.S. Agent, respectively. Julia Louis-Dreyfus will reprise her role as the enigmatic Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, guiding this eclectic team of anti-heroes. Also gracing the screen is Lewis Pullman as Robert Reynolds/Sentry, alongside Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, and Geraldine Viswanathan. What’s Next for Marvel Studios in 2025?
As excitement builds for Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios has more in store for 2025. First up, Anthony Mackie steps into the role of Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, set to hit theaters on February 14. Following that, on May 2, Thunderbolts will explode onto the big screen. Later in the year, Marvel Studios will debut The Fantastic Four: First Steps, featuring Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, on July 25. Also on the slate are Daredevil: Born Again and Blade, though the latter’s release may face further delays due to ongoing production challenges.
