The Scarlet Witch’s Marvel Cinematic Universe story may not be over just yet. A new rumor suggests Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff could make her long-awaited return in Avengers: Doomsday—and the details hint at a surprising twist that connects her directly to the X-Men.
Earlier this year, Olsen herself cast doubt on her involvement in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, but speculation has remained high that she would reappear in one of Marvel’s massive upcoming crossover events. Now, a fresh report from Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus claims Wanda’s return might not be the one fans are expecting. According to Perez, the Scarlet Witch who emerges in Doomsday could be a multiversal variant, living in a reality where Magneto rules Genosha alongside his children Pietro, Wanda, and Polaris.

If true, that would finally deliver on the long-teased father-daughter connection between Wanda and Erik Lehnsherr. “This is an idea that has been pushed since Multiverse of Madness, and then Deadpool and Wolverine,” Perez explained. “The main point they would like to explore with Wanda is the father-daughter relationship with Erik.” For longtime Marvel devotees, this potential storyline would be a dream come true, allowing Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff to explore new emotional depths and solidify her place in mutant lore.
Adding fuel to the fire, Perez also shared dialogue tied to Magneto, which has fans buzzing about the possible return of Sir Ian McKellen. “A lifetime, several lifetimes, spent chasing haven after haven, promised land after promised land, and for what? Every time the gates of Eden slam shut in our faces, it breaks us a little more,” the supposed quote reads. While far from confirmed, McKellen’s reprisal as Magneto would be a show-stopping addition to Marvel’s already jam-packed ensemble.
Of course, this remains just one of several concepts Marvel Studios is rumored to be exploring. With a movie as massive as Avengers: Doomsday, only fragments of these ideas may survive into the final film. Still, the possibility of uniting Wanda with Magneto and tying her story to the X-Men is the kind of high-stakes storytelling that fans crave.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. The Russo brothers, returning after their blockbuster run with Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, promised to bring Marvel’s storytelling to “new and surprising places.” If this rumor proves true, Wanda’s next chapter could be one of the MCU’s most exciting yet.
