Marvel Studios is swiftly progressing with its screenplay for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, bringing in Michael Waldron, the creative force behind Loki. This development, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, places Waldron at the forefront of Marvel’s expansive Multiverse Saga, a narrative spanning several realities across both cinema and television.

Waldron’s journey with Marvel began with his role in developing Loki. He subsequently contributed to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and is also responsible for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, set to follow The Kang Dynasty. The Kang Dynasty is slated for release on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027.

This update comes in the wake of director Destin Daniel Cretton’s departure from the project. Cretton continues his work with Marvel, focusing on the TV series Wonder Man and the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Jeff Loveness, known for his work on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which featured the character Kang, had previously written a draft for The Kang Dynasty. The character Kang, a time-traveling antagonist portrayed by Jonathan Majors, has appeared in various forms within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), including Loki and Quantumania. The conclusion of Quantumania introduced a Council of Kangs, hinting at Majors’ continued involvement in the MCU, despite his ongoing legal issues in New York.
As of now, neither The Kang Dynasty nor Secret Wars have confirmed directors. However, Waldron’s involvement indicates a potential cohesive direction for both films, reminiscent of the approach taken with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, both of which were written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
