Margot Robbie, acclaimed for her portrayal of Harley Quinn, is ardently championing the inclusion of a romantic storyline between her character and Poison Ivy in upcoming films. Robbie, who wielded a baseball bat as Harley Quinn, has not officially announced her return to the role in future projects. Nevertheless, she expresses a strong desire for introducing a queer relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.

During a recent discussion with ComicBook.com, Robbie shared her long-standing wish for this romantic narrative to materialize. “For years, I’ve been advocating for this,” Robbie explained. “I can’t emphasize enough how much I’ve pushed for this storyline; it’s something I truly want to see happen.”

When prompted about potential casting for Poison Ivy – previously brought to life by Uma Thurman in 1997’s Batman & Robin and given voice by Lake Bell in an HBO Max (aka Max) animated series – Robbie confessed that she visualizes the character as depicted in comic books, without associating her with a specific actress.

Since donning Harley Quinn’s iconic platform boots in Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of Prey (2020), and The Suicide Squad (2021), Robbie is set to witness her character reinterpreted by Lady Gaga, who will star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the forthcoming Joker: Folie à Deux.

From the start, my dream was to see Harley Quinn become a legacy character, much like Batman or Macbeth, with various accomplished actors bringing their unique interpretations to the role.”

Margot Robbie told MTV News

Robbie added that it is indeed a rare and honorable experience to build a character so robust that other actors can explore and redefine it on their own terms. Celebrating the lineage of strong female roles like Queen Elizabeth I – a character she had the opportunity to portray, following in the footsteps of Cate Blanchett – Robbie relishes the thought of Harley Quinn joining the ranks of these iconic characters. Looking ahead, she believes Lady Gaga will undoubtedly deliver a stellar performance as Harley Quinn.
