According to a new rumor making waves across the fandom, Hawkeye season 2 is moving forward at Disney+, but this time without Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton. The Avengers alum, who famously survived a near-fatal snowplow accident in early 2023, recently confirmed he turned down a return to the Marvel series after being offered only half the salary he received for season one. Despite that, fans may not have seen the last of Hawkeye—just the last of Barton as its lead.
Hailee Steinfeld Reportedly Set to Take the Lead as Kate Bishop in Hawkeye Season 2

Stepping up? None other than Hailee Steinfeld, whose breakout performance as Kate Bishop in season one had fans calling for a spinoff almost immediately. Renner himself even hinted that the series was always meant to be a “passing of the torch” moment, and based on her chemistry with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Steinfeld’s Bishop is more than capable of leading the charge.
The rumor comes from trusted scooper @MyTimeToShineH, who tweeted, “Despite Jeremy Renner’s decision to not do a season 2 of Hawkeye, [it’s] still moving forward with Hailee Steinfeld as the lead.” While Marvel Studios has yet to confirm anything officially, fans are already speculating what a Bishop-centric series could look like—more Young Avengers, perhaps?

Renner, speaking candidly in a recent interview, voiced frustration with the pay disparity: “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry, why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over?’” While clarifying that he still loves the character and didn’t ask for a raise, he felt disrespected by what he called an “insult offer” driven by “penny pinchers.”
It remains unclear whether Renner’s Clint Barton will appear in future MCU installments like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. But with Steinfeld leading the next chapter, Hawkeye fans might still have plenty of target-hitting moments ahead.
Stay tuned—Kate Bishop’s next mission might just be her biggest yet.
