Fox is officially putting Baywatch back on duty. The network announced it has placed a series order for a brand-new take on the 1990s lifeguard phenomenon, confirming that the iconic red swimsuits and dramatic slow-motion rescues will return to television in the 2026–27 season. The revival, produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, will launch with 12 episodes and aims to introduce a new generation to the high-stakes world of beach patrol.

Matt Nix, best known for Burn Notice and True Lies, has been tapped to serve as showrunner and executive producer. He will be joined by original Baywatch creators Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, and Doug Schwartz, alongside Dante Di Loreto. Together, they plan to blend the sun-soaked escapism that made the original a cultural juggernaut with contemporary storytelling designed to capture today’s audience.
Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn teased what fans can expect, saying, “In its first run, Baywatch defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status. Now, with our partners at Fremantle, this television juggernaut is set for a modern-day comeback. Together, Fox and Fremantle, along with Matt Nix and original co-creator Greg Bonann, will bring the California dream to a whole new generation of fans with fresh stories, rising stars, and all the spectacle that makes the Baywatch franchise a global sensation.”

Back in the 90s, Baywatch became one of the most-watched shows in the world, launching the careers of David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, and countless others. It was more than a TV series; it was a pop culture phenomenon, blending campy drama, heroic action, and a steady stream of breakout stars who went on to become household names. The series also carried a signature look that became synonymous with lifeguard glamour and sun-drenched adventure.
As Fox prepares to bring the franchise back, the question on everyone’s mind is who will fill the iconic lifeguard towers this time around. The original was known for turning beautiful and charismatic actors into global sensations, and anticipation is already building over whether the reboot will spotlight up-and-coming talent or recruit established stars eager to dive into the water.
With its mix of nostalgia and fresh energy, the Baywatch reboot is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about projects on the horizon. Fans can expect a revival that honors the legacy of the original while offering a contemporary splash of drama, heroics, and beachside spectacle.
