Elizabeth Olsen is hanging up her hexes — for now. The WandaVision Emmy nominee and longtime fan-favorite of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has confirmed she will not be reprising her role as Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch in the next two Avengers blockbusters: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Instead, Olsen is pivoting to prestige television, signing on to star in the FX drama pilot Seven Sisters (source: Hollywood Reporter).
Is Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff not in Doomsday or Secret Wars?

Speaking recently about her plans post-Panic Carefully — a Sam Esmail-directed thriller she just wrapped in London — Olsen revealed, “I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].” Notably, the series is housed under FX, which is owned by Disney, so she’s not straying too far from the Mouse House. Still, her absence from the Russo brothers’ high-stakes, back-to-back Avengers productions (slated to shoot in London soon) has left Marvel fans stunned and skeptical.
And let’s be honest — Marvel actors denying involvement in upcoming projects has practically become a genre of its own. (Yes, we still remember Andrew Garfield’s now-legendary “I’m not in Spider-Man: No Way Home” campaign.) Even the Russo brothers have played coy before, famously denying Avengers: Endgame as a title long after fans had guessed it correctly.

Wanda Maximoff has grown into one of the MCU’s most powerful — and popular — characters, thanks in no small part to Olsen’s performances in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and WandaVision. With the expanding magical corner of the MCU (hello, Agatha All Along and the introduction of Wiccan), it seems inconceivable that Wanda wouldn’t factor into the multiverse-shattering events of Secret Wars.
So is Olsen truly done with the next two Avengers movies, or is this just the latest misdirect in the MCU’s long game of secrets and surprises? Only time will tell.
